Florida is, by a wide margin, the state with the most people enrolled in Obamacare in the whole country: 4.5 million people, one in five nationwide. That means a lot of competition between carriers and, for you, more options. Here's how to make the most of them.
| Florida by the numbers | Figure |
|---|---|
| People enrolled | 4,538,772 for 2026 |
| Receive government help | over 95% of enrollees |
| Average subsidy | $740 a month |
| Average premium AFTER the subsidy | $106 a month |
| Pay less than $10 a month | 34% of enrollees |
| Premium increase for 2027 | between 3.9% and 39.1% depending on the carrier |

The most surprising number: 34% pay less than $10 a month
More than 95% of Florida enrollees receive government help, with an average subsidy of $740 a month. Once it's applied, the average premium people actually pay is $106.
And a third of people pay less than $10 a month.
I give you these numbers because a lot of people never even try — they assume they can't afford it. In Florida, the odds you qualify for help are extremely high. The hard part is knowing exactly how much, and that's what I work out with you in minutes.
The 2027 increase depends enormously on your carrier
Here Florida behaves differently from Georgia. There's no single increase: it ranges from 3.9% to 39.1% depending on the company.
That gap is huge, and it has a practical consequence: staying on your current plan without reviewing it could cost you dearly this year. Your carrier may be one of the ones that went up 39% while the one next door went up 4%, with a similar network.
This is the worst year to let your plan renew on its own. A fifteen-minute review can be worth several hundred dollars a year.
Florida didn't expand Medicaid
Like Georgia, Florida didn't expand Medicaid. The same coverage gap exists: people who earn too little for a Marketplace subsidy but too much for Medicaid.
If you're in that gap, there are paths depending on your family and work situation. Don't write them off without asking.
