Why it rose so much and what can be done
The enhanced subsidies that had been in place since 2021 expired on January 1, 2026. They weren't trimmed: they vanished. And with them came back the so-called 400% cliff: if your household earns above 400% of the federal poverty level, you lose the entire subsidy at once, not gradually.
A family of four in Duval earning $85,000 went from paying about $558 a month to about $864. That's the case I hear most from this area.
What can actually be done: review the metal level (sometimes a silver plan with more subsidy beats a bronze), check whether your projected income is calculated correctly — a lot of people overstate it without realizing — and see whether a supplemental plan covers the gap for less money than moving up a plan.
UF Health, Baptist and Ascension
Jacksonville is split between UF Health Jacksonville, the academic hospital and the referral center for complex cases, Baptist Health y Ascension St. Vincent's.
If you or someone in your family is in ongoing treatment, the hospital isn't negotiable: you pick the plan around it, not the other way around. The same goes for specific specialists.
Bring me the list of doctors you want to keep and I'll cross-check it against the available plans before we talk price.
It's the most expensive decision there is and the one I see most often. Before you cancel, let me run your case under today's rules — there's often a way out you hadn't seen.
