If you're Puerto Rican, this matters to you
Central Florida has one of the largest Puerto Rican communities outside the island, and I run into the same misunderstanding over and over: people who don't enroll because they think their immigration status prevents it.
If you were born in Puerto Rico, you are a U.S. citizen. You qualify for the Marketplace and the federal subsidy exactly like someone born in Orlando. No extra step, no special paperwork, no risk.
I say it because I've seen families go years without coverage over a doubt that takes thirty seconds to clear up.
The hospitals here and the networks
Two systems dominate Central Florida: AdventHealth y Orlando Health. Between them they cover almost the whole region — Orlando Health Regional Medical Center is, in fact, the largest hospital in Florida.
Here's the detail that costs a lot of people dearly: not every plan includes both systems. You can buy the cheapest plan on the Marketplace and find out in January that your longtime pediatrician, or the hospital ten minutes away, is out of network.
Before you enroll with me we check your doctors and your hospital one by one. It's free, and it's the step that prevents the most grief.
Choosing a plan on premium alone. In Orlando the difference between a plan that includes your hospital and one that doesn't can cost you thousands of dollars in a single ER visit.
