Health insurance in Duluth, with an office right here

Duluth is one of the most international cities in Georgia: nearly one in three neighbors was born outside the United States. And even so, many people here still have no health coverage, almost always for the same reason — nobody ever explained it to them in their own language. My office is on Johns Crossing, minutes from where you live.

I don't work from another state or out of a call center. My office is at 6465 E Johns Crossing, Ste 200, Duluth, GA 30097, and I serve people from Duluth, Suwanee, Berkeley Lake, Norcross, Peachtree Corners, Johns Creek, Lawrenceville and the rest of Gwinnett.

In Gwinnett you enroll through Georgia Access

Starting with the 2025 plan, Georgia stopped using HealthCare.gov and has its own marketplace: Georgia Access. If you search online and end up on HealthCare.gov, that page will send you back — you didn't make a mistake, the state moved.

And if a relative in Florida tells you how they did it, their process isn't yours: different site, different calendar, different insurers.

The good part for you: in Georgia a licensed agent can enroll you directly, without you having to fight with the state's website. I do it with you from start to finish and it costs you nothing.

Almost a third of Duluth was born abroad

It's the figure that defines this city, and it explains why I set up here. About 31% of Duluth residents were born in another country, and in Gwinnett County 24.5% of the population is Hispanic.

With that comes an idea you hear all over the neighborhood: “I don't qualify for anything.” In most cases it isn't true, or isn't entirely true.

Two things worth being clear about: applying for coverage for those who do qualify does not harm anyone else in the household, and you can enroll your citizen children even if you don't qualify yourself. They're separate situations and they're handled separately.

And if you don't have documents, you're not left with nothing either: there are private plans that don't ask about immigration status — they aren't Obamacare and they work differently, but for many families in Duluth they're the only real coverage available.

Living in the metro gives you more options

Gwinnett is part of metro Atlanta, and that matters more than it seems: competing here are between five and seven carriers. Across much of rural Georgia there are one or two.

More competition means more plans to choose from, wider doctor networks and, in general, a better price for the same coverage.

If you took the first plan you were offered and haven't looked at it since, you're very likely overpaying. Comparing costs nothing.
